John Mwendwa Gitari
John Mwendwa is a seasoned communications and media expert with a distinguished career spanning strategic communication, journalism and executive training. As the lead consultant at Life in Motion Consulting, John brings a wealth of experience in designing and delivering high-impact communication strategies, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement initiatives across multiple sectors.
With a proven track record in result-driven delivery, John has led and implemented strategic communication programs and trainings for leading organizations, the Regional Network for Equity in Health for Eastern and Southern Africa (EQUINET), Nutrition International (NI), and Self Help Africa (SHA). He has guided the creation of communication frameworks and visibility strategies for initiatives such as the Water Towers Climate Change and Mitigation Programme and the IDEAS (Instruments for Devolution Advice and Support) Programme, driving public awareness and stakeholder alignment.
As a former Account Director at Apex Porter Novelli—global PR firm Porter Novelli’s full-brand affiliate—John led the design and execution of integrated communications campaigns for top-tier brands. Notable among these were Unilever’s school based “Good Breakfast” campaign, Lifebuoy’s award-winning handwashing initiative, and Pepsodent’s oral health advocacy campaign. He also contributed to public relations strategy and execution for clients such as Google, Bamburi Cement, and Athi Water Services.
John’s excellence in message delivery and audience engagement has made him a sought-after public speaking and media trainer and coach. He has facilitated communication workshops for senior leadership teams across a wide array of organizations, including including the World Bank (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia), William Grants and Sons – (Europe, Africa, Middle East and India team), County Pension Fund (CPF), AAR Insurance, ICEA Lion, The Karen Hospital, and the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA). His training areas include public speaking, executive coaching, media handling, professional etiquette, stakeholder engagement, and result-driven cross-platform storytelling.
Earlier in his career, John built a reputation as a consummate journalist, including roles as News Editor at KTN and Editorial Director at K24 where he trained numerous journalists. His accolades include five major journalism awards, such as the CNN Africa Journalist of the Year in Television News, the Peter Jenkings East Africa Award for Conservation and Environment, and the UNESCO Red Ribbon Award for East, Central and Southern Africa. His journalistic expertise informs his strategic approach to storytelling and media relations.
John has also contributed to academia as a visiting lecturer at the University of Nairobi’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication where he taught broadcast journalism and management for over a decade. He holds a BA in Communication from Daystar University and has been a Catherine W. Fanning Research Fellow in Journalism at the Charles Kettering Foundation, as well as a CNN Journalism Fellow in Atlanta.
Martin Ocholi
Martin brings a more than thirty years of experience in the media and communications field. His areas of expertise cover media relations, strategic communication and voice coaching. He has worked in a variety of fields including the public sector, non-governmental organisations, academia, and international development.
His media skills training portfolio consists of corporate leaders, diplomatic officials, broadcast personnel and campaigners. His programs have impacted Board Chairpersons, CEOs, General Managers, and other high-ranking executives.
Besides training, Martin has also supported the development and implementation of projects for International Development organizations such as UNESCO, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, and the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) of the World Bank, among others
